ChewOnThis! 2016 was a great success thanks to the hard work of organizers and communities across the country! We had over 60 groups participating – in every province and territory – calling on Minister Duclos to include those with lived experience of poverty in meaningful consultations in the development of a comprehensive, rights-based Canadian Poverty Reduction Strategy.
At our event on Parliament Hill, we had a great group of volunteers and staff from Canada Without Poverty and Citizens for Public Justice sharing our message. We had some media presence on the Hill, as well as a couple of MPs joining us.
As a follow up to ChewOnThis! Dignity for All will check in with Minister Duclos’ office to ensure that he is receiving the postcards and hearing the message we are sending.
A couple of things that you can do following on this:
- Submit a written brief to the HUMA committee Poverty Reduction Strategies study taking place right now; and
- Prepare to contribute to the Canadian Poverty Reduction Strategy consultation process that will begin in 2017.
Dignity for All will continue to work throughout the year to engage the public and advocate for a strong national anti-poverty plan. Thank you for your ongoing work toward this goal. We’re closer than ever to making it happen!
